One of our most (and least) favorite parts of the diamond and antique jewelry industry is traveling to different antique, diamond and watch shows. We love to travel to find beautiful antique engagement rings and diamonds, however leaving our families is always tough.
Let, by traveling to shows, we learn what’s hot and whats not hot in our industry. Right now, vintage is hot, and antique and art deco. According to our show, friends in the diamond and watch industry, vintage is hot. I quote “What was selling??? Vintage appears to be making a strong comeback, which is welcomed. Those pieces have taken the back seat to modern for the past several months, but now buyers that are looking for something with a story tied to it, are embracing the uniqueness of vintage product.”
Consumers still love the modern three stone ring, but customers want the beautiful antique, vintage and art deco style. In addition, yes, they want antique and estate jewelry with a piece that has a history.
We also want to give a shout out to barbra streisand, a big antique jewelry enthusiast and wish her a happy 70 birthday… barbra keep on buying estate jewelry!

Yellow Diamonds!

After discussing the all important Bazal show and the price increases in fancy color diamonds, lets turn our heads and discuss fancy color diamonds, specifically canary diamonds or fancy yellows. Fancy yellow diamonds are rare yellow colored diamonds starting on the GIA scale with x-y or z colors. As you go down the scale the intensity of yellow deepens. The next levels are light yellow, fancy light yellow, fancy yellow, intense yellow and vivid yellow.
Yellow diamonds have always been popular, but the popularity is at its highest due to the increase in demand from India, the far east and Arab countries. Consumers here in the U.S seem to want something
other than the old staple three stone white diamond ring, so they are also turning to fancy yellow colors. With prices being so expensive for fancy color blue and pink diamonds i think we are going to see an
increase in the price and demand for fancy yellow color diamonds.
Most fancy yellow diamonds are in the shape of radiant cut diamonds. Round fancy yellow diamonds are very hard to find, as are emerald cuts and other fancy shapes. We should also add that a fine fancy color diamond will have an even color distribution. Diamond Prices Update!

Although we didnt travel to switzerland for the famous Bazal jewelry show, we still consider bazal a must for the diamond industry, including all our diamond and jewelry watchers. Bazal is an important diamond and jewelry show beucause it includes all of our friends from the middle east, far east, and europe. According to our sources, parts of the the bazal show were fantastic, and other parts not so.

Large diamonds sold at very high prices, specifically 5.00 carat plus fancy shape diamonds. Prices for fancy color diamonds, specifically fancy yellow diamonds, are still high and rising. Our friends from China
have slowed down a bit but VVS quality prices are still very high. We see that smaller size diamonds, for the U.S. consumer, are still very strong and didnt sell that well.

With India and China slowing down and not buying as much as in the past, the industry is waiting to see where prices are going. We think there is going to be a bit of weakinging in prices. However, the supply is still very low so this could keep prices at the present level.
We are very happy to see that with oil prices rising, this brings back our friends from the mid-east buying diamonds. Our mid east friends were the top buyers in the 1970′s and 1980′s. Hopefully, they will be back to buy diamond jewelry, big fancy shape diamonds, and fancy color diamonds.
